Description

Water Tank Fire Truck Maintenance and Common Fault Analysis

  1. Maintenance

Faults or performance degradation in water tank trucks during use are mainly caused by improper use, poor maintenance, and natural wear and tear. To ensure the fire truck is always in good working condition, timely maintenance is essential.

(I) Centrifugal Pump and Priming Device

  1. Lubrication. After 4-6 hours of cumulative pump operation, for pumps with gearboxes, check the lubricating oil level and replenish it if necessary. Use 18# hypoid gear oil for the pump. Before starting the pump, check the oil level in the drive shaft bearing housing by removing the oil level plug and adding oil through the filling hole until it flows out. Then tighten the plug. It is recommended to change the pump lubricating oil annually. Apply grease to the tail and middle supports of the pump shaft promptly.

  1. After use, drain the water from the pump and pipelines to prevent corrosion and freezing. Cover the pump inlet and outlet with caps and apply grease to the threads. 3. Regularly remove carbon deposits from the exhaust priming device. Clean the water ring pump and water tank monthly and change the water. Fill the oil tank of the piston pump and vane priming device with sufficient lubricating oil.

  1. Add antifreeze to the water ring pump's storage tank during winter. Antifreeze is prepared from water and alcohol; the preparation method is shown in the table.

  1. Regularly measure the maximum suction depth, priming time, and maximum water output of the centrifugal pump and priming device. Repair any devices that do not meet performance specifications promptly.

  1. Fire Extinguishing Equipment and Accessories

  1. Equipment and accessories should be complete, reliably fixed, and kept clean, dry, and in good technical condition.

  1. Regularly check the sealing rubber gaskets of the suction pipe, hose, nozzle, and various fire-fighting equipment for completeness. Replace any missing or damaged gaskets promptly.

III. Fire Truck Chassis

Maintenance should be performed according to the original vehicle requirements. In addition, to ensure fire trucks can be deployed quickly, the following must also be ensured:

  1. Vehicles should be kept clean and dry, and equipped with insulation devices in cold seasons.

  1. Replenish fuel, lubricating oil, and coolant promptly, ensuring the vehicle is leak-free (no leaks of oil, water, gas, or electricity).

  1. Check tire pressure and fan belt tension to ensure they meet standards.

  1. Regularly check and maintain lights, signals, horns, and batteries to ensure they are functioning properly.

  1. Periodically check the engine, power take-off, water pump, etc., for normal operation and any abnormal noises. Maintain the vehicle's cleanliness, ensure proper lubrication, reliable tightening, and appropriate speed control to keep the vehicle in good operational condition.

  1. Regularly check the water pump, priming system, and piping for leaks. All valves and stopcocks should be frequently opened and closed and lightly greased to prevent seizing.

  1. In cold seasons, drain all residual water from the water pump, outlet ball valve, auxiliary cooler, and piping to prevent freezing and cracking.

  1. The water tank should be cleaned after a period of use. At the same time, check the inner wall of the tank for rust and repair it promptly to prevent further corrosion.

Precautions for Use!

(I) After the water pump has used seawater, dirty water, or foam mixtures, it must be run with clean water for several minutes to clean the pump system, pipelines, and water tank to prevent corrosion.

(II) After the centrifugal pump is in operation, the auxiliary cooler switch should be turned on for forced cooling to improve engine cooling conditions and ensure the engine operates at normal temperature.

(III) The water pump must not be run for extended periods without water. Continuous operation should generally not exceed 1 minute. Operation with the outlet valve closed is not permitted, as this will cause the water pump to overheat, accelerate wear, or damage the sealing gaskets.

(IV) When using fire hydrant water or water from the vehicle's water tank, do not use the priming device.

  1. After using the auxiliary cooler in cold weather, the water in the inlet and outlet water pipelines should be promptly drained using the priming device.
