Use outriggers to maintain balance on aerial work platforms
Like other equipment like truck cranes and pump trucks, aerial work platforms must deploy outriggers and place pads or sleepers before operation to ensure the entire vehicle is level.
1. Basic Principles for Layout of Outrigger Pads and Sleepers
When using pads, the pads must be flat, and the outriggers must be perpendicular to and centered on the pads. A maximum of two layers of pads should be stacked at a time to prevent sideways sliding. When using sleepers, the area of the sleepers must be at least three times the area of the outrigger plates.
2. Layout of Outrigger Pads and Sleepers for Different Surfaces
1. Hard, Flat Surfaces
Even on hard, flat surfaces, pads or sleepers are required to prevent ground sag or collapse.
2. Hard, Flat, but Sloping Surfaces
For hard, flat surfaces with slopes, deploying the outriggers requires stacking multiple layers of sleepers and pads. 3. Soft Ground
When working on soft ground, don't hesitate to use a large base layer, multiple layers of stacking, and padding to set up the outriggers.
4. Soft and Sloping Ground
Working on soft and sloping ground is very risky, the most challenging, and the most challenging for your outrigger skills.
5. Confined Ground
When working in confined spaces, we must create conditions for outriggers. Do not place supports under the outrigger beams. This is because the outriggers' strength and loads can easily cause welds to break or fracture, creating a potential accident hazard.
