How to Maintain Truck-Mounted Crane Wire Rope
I. Pre-Operation Inspection:
1. Daily Inspection

Hand-stroke the wire rope. If you find more than 10% broken wires within a single lay (e.g., more than 6 broken wires in a 6-strand rope), immediately remove it from service and replace it with a new one.

Is the surface wear exceeding 25% of the original diameter, is it rusted and blackened, or is the rope core exposed? These are signs of a "wire rope fracture." Don't force it!

Check the rope clamps for looseness and the wedge joints for misalignment. Overtightening the bolts will flatten the wires, while over-loosening them will cause them to slip. Tightening them to a point where they flatten by 1/3 of their thickness is the safest option.

II. 
1. Avoid Hard Corners
When hoisting, avoid sharp corners or steel pipe edges, using wooden boards or rubber corner guards.

2. Sudden Acceleration = Wire Rope "Death"
Start and stop slowly. Sudden acceleration with the handle can cause the wire rope to vibrate and cut through the internal wires.

3. Overloading is "slow suicide."

The "rated load" on the crane's sign is a lifeline! Overloading will stretch and deform the wire rope, and even if it doesn't break immediately, it will cause hidden damage.

4. Winding the wrong way can ruin everything.

Ensure the angle between the wire rope's centerline and the pulley plane is ≤ 4 degrees (about half a finger's width). Excessive angles will prematurely damage the wire rope.
